Happiness Series - 2022 - 2023
Cutting-edge research in cognitive science has established that art making increases serotonin in the brain and contributes to well-being and happiness. In addition, viewing art triggers a surge of the feel-good chemical dopamine into the orbito-frontal cortex of the brain, resulting in feelings of intense pleasure.
My latest series of paintings, The Science of Happiness, is based on research that has shown that people associate circular and curved shapes with positive emotions like happiness, love and joy. I have experimented with upward curved bands and energetic dots of pure hues in a minimal abstract composition and have found that this combination of art elements is most conducive to positive mood elevation.
While creating these works, I sensed a feeling of exhilaration, and people who have seen this series have commented that viewing this artwork elicits emotions of joy. Psychologists have reached the conclusion that it is not sufficient to reduce negative emotions; rewiring the brain for positive thoughts and visualizations is what leads to real healing and happiness. Our thoughts create our reality!
